After reports in HT about the alleged caste discrimination with dalit schoolchildren in village Dagawashankar, similar allegations are pouring in from other villages.
On Tuesday, school children at Cheerakhan in Handia tehsil of the district also made allegations of discrimination. Ravi, a student of class 7 of the local government middle school said that once he was given a burnt chapatti and when he sought a replacement, he was refused a new chapati saying that he had already touched the one given earlier. Chetan Fulchand Dewda of class 5 alleged that once his pant touched the flour container and the cook berated him badly and made casteist remarks at him.
Teacher also face discrimination:
The only dalit teacher in the middle school, Balbirsingh Karoria, who was on leave in Morena, told HT over telephone that he too faced discrimination when he arrived in Cheerakhan in 2007. He would be given tea and water separately and once a woman threw away an entire vessel of water after he went to the same hand pump to drink water from where she had drawn water.
He furher said that only few days ago, the dalit children have stopped washing their own utensils after mid-day meals. Earlier they were doing it themselves.
