Kin of a woman patient created ruckus at Sultania Zenana Hospital in Bhopal on Tuesday after the woman delivered a baby outside the hospital and the newborn died.
Angry relatives of the patient accused the hospital administration of negligence and alleged that delay in providing treatment led to the death of the newborn. Later, they lodged a complaint against the hospital administration at Talaiya police station.
“I came to hospital around 8 am. The hospital staff was cleaning when I entered and sat on a bench at the entrance as I was suffering from labour pain. I delivered the baby there. When the hospital staff saw me, they rushed me to the ward,” said Rubina, 25, a resident of Kolar area. Her relatives were procuring a registration slip from the hospital’s registration counter when she delivered the baby.
This is the second such incident in the last few days at Sultania Hospital. A few days ago, a woman and her newborn child had died at the hospital when the bed they were lying on broke on January 11. Following the incident, the directorate of medical education had suspended the hospital superintendent that had led to protests by senior doctors and hospital staff.
In Rubina’s case, the hospital administration has claimed that she was just six months pregnant and it was a stillbirth. However, hospital authorities refused to give an official statement on the incident.
While the body of the newborn has been sent to Gandhi Medical College (GMC) for post-mortem examination, Rubina is undergoing treatment in medical ward of the hospital.
