BrahMos Aerospace chief executive officer and managing director Sudhir Kumar Mishra on Monday urged teachers and researchers at Pandit Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing (PDPM- IIITDM), Jabalpur to come out with innovative machinery designs projects for aerospace and other sectors.
BrahMos Aerospace Limited, a joint venture company between the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya, is named after two rivers — the Brahmaputra and the Moskva.
“I come from aerospace industry where 10-15% of resources are spent on design of equipments and machinery, another 10-15% of resources go for developing prototype and 40-60% of resources is spent on qualification and testing… There is lack of expertise in the standard making and revising design of machinery in the country,” Mishra, speaking at the inaugural session of a design workshop at PDPM- IIITDM, said.
He urged the institute to bridge the gap by working towards developing a model on manufacturing quality design and testing of equipments.
Dr Mitsuktake Numahata, coordinator for South Asian countries from the Japanese ministry of foreign affairs said the students of the institute have the gotten the opportunity to visit various industries and educational institutions in Japan, adding that the Japanese collaboration with PDPM- IIITDM is part of a partnership programme between New Delhi and Tokyo.
