A day after former American Embassy School in New Delhi staffer Leena Sharma was found murdered and buried in a jungle in native Hoshangabad district of MP, the autopsy was carried out on her body by a team of two doctors at the Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal.
Informed sources in Hoshangabad police confided to Hindustan Times that the doctors who performed the autopsy said that brain injury could have caused Leena’s death on April 29 morning in Dudadeh village of Sohagpur town.
Since the body was a fortnight old and badly decomposed hence the vaginal swab sample prepared from Leena’s body was sent to the state forensic science lab in Sagar to find out whether or not she was sexually assaulted prior to her killing, a senior Hoshangabad police officer said.
The body was later handed over to Leena’s elder sister Hema and her husband Nirankar.
However, before that two of Leena’s friends, including Ritu Shukla, objected to Hema and her husband being handed over the body for cremation. They demanded from the Hoshangabad police officer that Hema be grilled by police in the case. The body was later cremated in Bhopal only.
Hema to be grilled by cops in next few days
Hema will be grilled in this case by the Hoshangabad police soon. “She is presently in a state of shock, but we’ll call her for questioning after 2-3 days. If she doesn’t come to Hoshangabad for questioning, we’ll send a team to Bhopal to question her,” said Hoshangabad SP AP Singh adding that this case has been put under heinous crime category.
Pradeep was troubling family for two decades
The prime accused in the case, Pradeep Sharma had encroached upon the most fertile 10 acres out of the 35 acres land of the family in the last two decades. Around 15 years ago, unable to get the encroachment removed, Leena’s parents had possibly approached a court also in the matter. “We’re trying to get possible court documents in this matter,” Hoshangabad SP said. In addition, police are also probing the four acres of land donated by Leena’s maternal grandparents for building a temple in Dudadeh village two decades ago. That land is under the illegal possession of Sharma.
