Thirty-two-year-old Sanjiv Agrawal did not want to marry, however, when he decided to tie the knot, little did he know that his bride would elope with around Rs 2.75 lakh valuables within 24 hours of marriage.
Agarwal, a petrol pump employee in Nowgaon area, tied knot with the woman on April 26 at a temple in ward number five in Chhattarpur’s Nowgaon area.
The groom’s family gifted the newlywed bride jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh and brought her home in Nowgaon. However, the woman went missing with the jewellery and Rs 25,000 on Thursday morning.
A case was lodged in the matter on Thursday and police are on the lookout for the woman Rajni Dubey, her family members and a matchmaker.
According to the police, the woman made Agarwal drink sedative-laced milk on April 27 night and decamped with the valuables. The 10 alleged family members of the woman also went missing from a hotel where they were put up for the function.
“We are investigating the matter and are looking for Rajni, her relatives and matchmaker Sugar Yadav and his aides,” Chhattarpur additional superintendent of police (ASP) Neeraj Pandey said, adding that Yadav, a resident of adjoining Dhirajpur-Tapariyan village, had taken Rs 1 lakh from the family for fixing the match.
He had introduced the woman claiming that she belonged to Tendukheda tehsil in Damoh district.
