The state Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress on Monday came out with a list of 40 star campaigners ahead of the by-elections for Shahdol Lok Sabha seat and Nepanagar assembly seat. The two constituencies will go to polls on November 19.

BJP chief Amit Shah, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe are among the 40 star campaigners for the state’s ruling party. Narendra Singh Tomar, Nand Kumar Singh Chauhan, Prabhat Jha, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Thawarchand Gehlot, Suhas Bhagat and Vishwas Sarang will also tour the constituencies and woo voters for the party’s candidates.

Giving a stiff fight to the BJP, the opposition has declared the names of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Besides, Mohan Prakash, Arun Yadav, Kamalnath, Digvijaya Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Vivek Tankha, Kantilal Bhuria, Suresh Pachouri, actor Nagma, Ajay Singh, Sachin Pilot, Meenakshi Natarajan, Bala Bachchan, Jitu Patwari and Arif Aqueel will also campaign for the Congress candidates.

The list of star campaigners was submitted by both the parties to the office of the MP chief electoral officer on Saturday. The Election Commission has restricted the number of star campaigners for parties. While registered political parties can appoint up to 20 star campaigners, recognised political parties can appoint up to 40.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded state minister for scheduled castes and tribal welfare Gyan Singh (63) as its candidate for the Shahdol (ST) Lok Sabha seat and Manju Dadoo from Nepanagar (ST) assembly seat.

Singh will lock horns with the Congress candidate Himadri Singh (29). While Antar Singh Birde will fight from Nepanagar.
