Former Madhya Pradesh cadre 1973 batch IAS officer Najeeb Jung has been appointed the lieutenant governor of Delhi on Tuesday. Jung, who is presently serving as vice-chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia University, has held several important assignments in Madhya Pradesh and the Union government.
A graduate and post-graduate in History from St Stephen’s College, Delhi and Delhi University, Jung had resigned from the IAS prematurely after a stint as joint secretary in the Union ministry of petroleum and natural gas and the Asian Development Bank at Manila.
He worked intensively in the energy sector while in the Asian Development Bank and the Reliance supported Observer Research Foundation -- a think tank that gives policy inputs to the Government of India.
While in the IAS, Jung served as sub- divisional magistrate, Mhow, collector of Datia and Raipur, managing director of the MP finance corporation, managing director of MP OILFED and later in the Union ministries of railways and petroleum.
