Buckling under pressure from slain IPS officer Narendra Kumar’s family and the opposition, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday said the state government would recommend a CBI probe into the killing.
Kumar, 31, an IPS officer of the 2009 batch, was run over by a tractor-trolley driven by an alleged member of the mining mafia at Banmore in Morena district of north Madhya Pradesh on Holi (March 8).
Chouhan said CBI probe was being recommended at the instance of the slain officer’s wife, Madhurani Teotia, an IAS officer (MP cadre).
He said there was no question of Teotia changing her cadre. “I have accepted Madhurani as my sister and as a daughter of MP,” he said.
Opposition Congress had stalled proceedings demanding a discussion on an adjournment motion about the officer's killing.
The CM had earlier ordered a judicial probe into Kumar’s killing, but it cut no ice with his family and the opposition.
Meanwhile, the bandh call given by the Congress to press for a CBI probe into the killing evoked good response throughout the state.
