BJP national ST morcha president, former Union minister and Mandla MP, Faggan Singh Kulaste has thrown his hat in the ring for the post of the party state president. Kulaste has reportedly told the party leadership that he either be accommodated as state BJP president or be appointed a minister in the Union cabinet in the next expansion.
On Wednesday, top BJP leaders from the state met at the house of Union minister Thawarchand Gehlot in Delhi. The meeting was attended by the CM and top BJP leaders from the state.
During the meeting, Kulaste, who was also present, told the leaders that his services should be utilised by the party.
Kulaste’s claim comes at a time when the state unit of the BJP is mid-way through the process of completing the organisational polls.
While block-level elections have been completed, district-level elections will follow and eventually a state party president would be elected.
The present state party president Nandkumar Singh Chauhan is serving the remainder of the term of his predecessor Narendra Singh Tomar.
If he is appointed again, he will get a full 3-year term.
The state BJP president’s position assumes significance given the fact that whoever is appointed would also occupy the post till the completion of assembly elections in the state due in November 2018.
“The party has to use my services in some way. I have told the party leaders I either be appointed state president or inducted in the Union cabinet,” he told HT.
Kulaste is presently serving his fifth term as Lok Sabha MP. He also served as the Rajya Sabha MP from 2012 before being elected to Lok Sabha in 2014.
He is also serving his second term as president of national ST morcha of the BJP.
His name had cropped up in the cash-for-votes scandal during the vote on nuclear agreement in 2008.
In Madhya Pradesh, 20.11% of the population hails from the scheduled tribes and 41 seats in the 230 member house are reserved for the community.
