Former Member of Parliament (MP) Ghufran Azam, who had filed a defamation case in court against Congress leaders earlier this month, reached the court on Saturday. His statement was recorded in the court of chief judicial magistrate.
Azam had filed a defamation case against Congress leaders KK Mishra and PK Pathak. The former MP said he was an AICC member, yet he was declared expelled from the party by the PCC that doesn't have the authority to do so. He claimed that he wasn't given notice or opportunity to explain himself and the announcement of expulsion was made. This was illegal as per Congress' constitution and in turn affected his social prestige, he said.
Talking to media persons outside the court, Azam said there was no question of rapprochement with Congress leaders. In the next hearing, the witnesses' statements would be recorded.
