Questioning the Congress' decision to expel him from party, senior leader and former member of parliament Ghufran Azam on Thursday wrote a letter to Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Arun Yadav objecting to the manner in which the party announced the expulsion.
In the letter, Azam wrote that he was an AICC member for 40 years, and how could he be expelled by a 'media in-charge's press release'. Azam said he could only be expelled by Congress president.
"The press release that was issued on Wednesday mentioned that I have been expelled. But it nowhere has the name of PCC chief, instead, it has the signature of the media in-charge," said the veteran politician.
"If the order came from Delhi, why it did not have the name of any official of AICC? If you have the written order of the disciplinary committee of AICC, then provide me a copy, else I would sue media in-charge and Congress' spokespersons within 24 hours. I have neither got any show cause notice or a communique from AICC that I have been expelled from the party," he further wrote Yadav.
When asked, PCC president Arun Yadav said that he would not comment on any statement by Azam. "I will give the reply in court," he said.
