International shooter Varsha Varman and karate player Ajay Yadav among others have been selected for the prestigious Vikram Awards, the highest state-level sports awards in MP, this year.
Names of the winners of Vikram, Eklavya, Vishwamitra awards, lifetime achievement and late Prabhash Joshi Sports Award, 2015 were announced by sports and youth welfare minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia late on Friday evening, on eve of the National Sports Day, celebrated each year on August 29.
This year, the Eklavya Awards will be conferred on 14 junior sportspersons, while the Vikram Awards on nine senior players and Vishwamitra awards on three coaches.
Besides, Varman and Yadav, the Vikram Awards will be conferred on Riha David (soft tennis), Ankita Raikwar (wushu), Rohit Imoliya (swimming), Savita Parkhe (softball), Ami Kamani (snooker) and Gaurav Muchhal (badminton - disabled persons).
The coveted Eklavya Awards will be conferred on Kirti Kewat (kayaking and canoeing), Arundhati Sharma (soft tennis), Manish Baraskar (wushu), Priyanshu Pandey (shooting), Shubham Upadhyay (swimming), Pranay Khare (equestrian) Vishal Thakur (sailing), Sushma Saryam (wrestling), Anil Rajak (taekwondo), Sarita Tomar (boxing), Mohammad Owais Khan (cricket), Pooja Parkhe (softball), Neha Singh, Karishma Yadav (hockey jointly) and Kritika Chouhan (rollball).
Coaches Sunil Kewat (kayaking-canoeing), Mohan Shakya (rowing)-both from Bhopal, and Sachin Kasture (softball), from Indore, have been selected for the Vishwamitra Awards.
Jabalpur's Chintaman Kashyap will be conferred Lifetime Achievement Award-2015, while Ujjain's Harsh Yadav has been selected for late Shri Prabhash Joshi Sports Award for promotion of Malkhamb.
