A team of Madhya Pradesh police special task force (MP STF) has achieved a major breakthrough by busting a syndicate engaged in illegal arms supply and meeting the ‘package needs’ of criminals in and around Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi national capital region (NCR).

On May 6, the MP STF, led by inspector Chetan Singh Bais, arrested a 40-year-old gun-maker or sikligar Chattan Singh from Khargone for manufacturing and supplying firearms to five smugglers in UP, Rajasthan and Gwalior. A week later the team arrested West UP-based arms smuggler Robin Singh, 27, from Aligarh. Several firearms and ammunitions were recovered from the two.

Sources in the MP STF told reporters on Sunday that Robin had sourced around 150 pistols, priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000, from Chattan since 2014. “Robin also sold .25 bore pistols along with eight- to nine-round of loaded magazines, all manufactured by Chattan, to criminals across UP, Delhi and Haryana for prices ranging between Rs 12,000 and Rs 15,000,” a senior officer of the MP STF team said.

He added: “We’ve recovered a ‘Made in MP’ pistol from one of Robin’s customers in Aligarh. More pistols could be seized from his customers in West UP and adjoining region in days to come.”

The MP STF is raiding several locations in Aligarh and Mathura districts with Robin to recover arms sold by him. Another STF team is likely to be sent to Rajasthan to nab two Jodhpur region-based arms smugglers, who have been particularly supplying firearms made by MP sikligars to Chittorgarh and Pratapgarh districts.

Earlier, in March the Uttar Pradesh and MP anti-terror squad busted an inter-state illegal arms supply racket in Aligarh district by arresting two men and seizing 40 semi-automatic pistols loaded with magazines that were to be supplied to criminals in West UP and Delhi NCR. The syndicate too had links to MP’s Khargone.
