The divisional commissioner of Hoshangabad ordered a magisterial inquiry on Friday into allegations that a flying squad of invigilators had strip-searched boys and girls together at an examination centre in a village school earlier this week.

The alleged incident occurred on March 17 in Hardu village, 35 km away from Betul district head quarter. The class 10 students were taking a test in science.

According to the students, the flying squad team also asked them to swear on their parents that they were not carrying any cheating material.

Angry parents of the students reached the office of the commissioner of Narmadapuram division, VK Batham, on Friday and informed him about the incident.

One of the parents, Saroj Uikey said, “If they wanted to do strip-searching, they would have taken (the) girls to another room for it. But this is really shameful that searching of girls (was) also done in front of (the) boys and male teachers. This is completely objectionable”.

When contacted, district education officer (DEO) Betul, BL Lodhi, said he hadn’t received any complaints from the parents.
