A gold medal-winning sportsperson was allegedly sexually harassed by an advocate in a train near Itarsi railway station early on Monday, police officials said.
The sportsperson, a minor, was returning to Bhopal with her family from Jabalpur when Piyush Dubey jumped on the girl, who was sleeping on the middle berth, at 3am. Dubey, the son of a session judge posted in a family court in Indore, was inebriated at the time, police said.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested Dubey and his friends, Alok Mishra and Mahiraj Singh, who were also inebriated.
Dubey was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sent to jail, said Superintendent of Railway Police Awadesh Goswami. His friends, who are also advocates, were booked under the excise duty act for drinking in the train.
Two GRP personnel on duty in the train were suspended because they turned a deaf ear to a complaint from the girl's mother regarding the harassment.
The girl's father pulled Dubey off her. Dubey and his friends were thrashed by the passengers in the coach before being handed over to the GRP at Itarsi.
The girl's mother told Hindustan Times that the GRP personnel did not act promptly against Dubey and his friends. "They consumed alcohol carried in soft drink bottles. I informed GRP personnel and the TTE about it and also requested them to change their seats but they didn't take any action," she said.
“We have asked the divisional railway manager to take action against the TTE,” said Goswami.
