A minor girl sustained multiple injuries after she was attacked with a trowel (khurpi) by a youth at a village in MP’s Rewa district on Friday, for turning down his marriage proposal, police said.

The 17-year-old girl was studying in class 9 of a government school in Shivpurwa village. She was attacked in school by Devendra Kushwaha (24) alias Babloo, they said.

Kushwaha is a resident of Satna and was residing with his relative in the village, Govindgarh police station town inspector Dinesh Singh Solanki said.

Kushwaha went to the school campus to ask the girl to marry him but she declined his proposal. He then attempted to suffocate the girl but she resisted and then Kushwaha attacked her with a trowel. The girl sustained multiple cut injuries before some students came for her rescue, Solanki said.

The girl was taken to the local hospital where she was treated and was discharged. Devendra was arrested, he added.
