Forest officials arrested a bear hunter in Sehore district’s Rehat area, who used to kill bears by electrocuting them and later eat their meat. Rehat area is nearly 80 kms from Sehore district headquarter.
The forest officials received officials information about the body of a bear lying in the Saemri forest area in Rehat. A team of forest officials headed by sub divisional officer VP Singh reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem, which revealed that the bear had died because of electrocution.
Later, last rites of the bear were held in presence of the forest officials. When forest officials questioned the locals, they suspected that it was one local villager who lived near the forest — Shev Singh, who might have killed the bear by electrocution method.
When officials searched the house of Shev Singh, they found the tools and wires he was using for killing animals by electrocution. When forest officials questioned him, he admitted to killing animals by electrocution and later eating their meat.
Deputy Ranger Dinesh Joshi said the accused was later produced before the local court at Nasrullahganj following which he was sent to the jail.
