Days after mistakenly congratulating urban administration minister Kailash Vijayvargiya for 'his achievements', Madhya Pradesh animal husbandry minister Kusum Mehdele accepted humbly on Monday that she didn't know Kailash Satyarthi before he received the Nobel Prize.

Kusum made the confession while presenting the report card of her departments before the media in Bhopal on Monday.

The winter session of Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly was on when Kailash Satyarthi received the Nobel Prize along with Pakistan’s Malala Yusuf in Oslo, Norway on December 10. Journalists had sought reaction from Mehdele on Satyarthi's achievements then.

However, not just Mehdele, some MLAs from the ruling party and the Opposition too had congratulated Kailash Vijayvargiya instead of Kailash Satyarthi. HT had then published a report on the 'general awareness' of MP’s politicians.

Mehdele was asked again on Monday if she knew Kailash Satyarthi. This time, she honestly admitted that she did not know Satyarthi before he got the Nobel prize. "Let me be honest enough to admit that I did not know him before he got the prize, despite holding the portfolio of women and child welfare minster twice — first in the then BJP chief minister Sunderlal Patwa's tenure and later during Uma Bharti’s," said Mehdele. I never got an opportunity to meet Satyarthi, she added.

At present, Mehdale holds the charge of six departments including animal husbandry, public health engineering, horticulture and food processing, fisheries development, cottage and rural industries and law and legislative affairs in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government.
