A speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) carrying Panchayat Minister Gopal Bhargava, hit a motorcycle-borne youth to death in Begamganj town of the district, said police on Monday.
The incident occurred when the minister was travelling in his four-wheeler, on way from Sagar to Bhopal on late Sunday night.
At around 11 pm, the minister's car was passing through Begamganj, when it hit the motorcycle. Two persons--Ramkumar Gurjar, 25, and his companion, Sunil Gurjar, 18, were riding the motorcycle.
Ramkumar was critically injured in the mishap and was rushed to the hospital. In view of his deteriorating condition, he was rushed to Bhopal, but he died on way.
His companion got minor injuries and was discharged from the hopital later. Local residents said that a jeep applied sudden brakes, which prompted the bike-rider to pass by the jeep from its sid.
However, in process the motorcycle was hit by the minister's SUV that was coming from the other direction.
Sunil Gurjar was a resident of Vidisha and had come to Begamganj to attend a marriage.
After the mishap, the SUV was taken to the police station. Local residents alleged that it took hours before FIR was registered.
Sub divisional officer of police (SDOP) ON Tandon said that driver, Sanjay Agarwal, for negligent driving causing death.
Tandon said that there was no delay in registration of FIR.
The incident has occurred just a day after a person was killed when BJP MLA Shailendra Jain hit a bike in Sagar district. The victim, Rammu Ahirwar, 55, had died on the spot.
