An 11-year-old girl was allegedly sexually harassed in a stationary train by a middle-aged man at Bhopal Railway Station on Friday evening, government railway police (GRP) said. This is the second incident of sexual harassment of a minor in a train within a week.

Earlier on March 16, a minor national player was allegedly harassed on a train between Jabalpur and Bhopal.

According to the GRP, the accused was identified as Bashar Kamal, 45, a resident of Bhopal. The girl was going to Kota with her mother. After boarding the train, the girl was sitting in her berth alone and her mother and maternal uncle had gone to buy a cold drink.

The compartment was empty as the other passengers were yet to arrive.

GRP said Kamal boarded the train and upon finding the girl alone, tried to assault her.

The girl resisted and screamed for help upon which her maternal uncle and mother reached the scene and thrashed Kamal, who was trying to escape.

Kamal was taken to the police station. Police arrested him and registered a case under sections 354 and 7/8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act.

On Monday last, a 9-year-old girl, who is a national sportsperson from Bhopal, was sexually harassed by an advocate in a running train near Itarsi railway station.

The accused was identified as Piyush Dubey, son of a civil judge who was returning from Jabalpur after appearing in a judicial services examination. Piyush was booked under POCSO Act as well.

After the incident, the girl's mother had raised serious questions on the security of girls in trains. Two GRP personnel on duty in the train too were suspended after the incident.
