A Lokayukta special court in Indore on Wednesday denied bail to former jail superintendent of Indore Central Jail, Purushottam Somkuwar, who was sent to jail in connection with disproportionate assets case filed against him by the Lokayukta special establishment police.
Somkunwar will have to spend more time in the same jail, where he served as the jail superintendent in the past.
After the Lokayukta police presented charge sheet against the tainted jail official, special judge BK Paloda on Saturday ordered to send Somkuwar to jail.
Lokayukta conducted raids at the former jail superintendent residences in the past for amassing huge wealth from sources apart from his know income.
At that time the raids were conducted, Somkuwar was serving as superintendent at Indore Central Jail. During the raid at his residence and offices, Lokayukta police had found him in possession of Rs 4.67 crore assets, as per a report presented in the state assembly by the Loayukta Police Establishment.
In March 2012, Lokayukta sleuths had raided his residence and found unaccounted cash and valuables. He was found to have stashed Rs 10.5 lakh cash, deposit receipts of Rs 6.5 lakh in various bank accounts and documents of a house registered in Somkuwar’s daughter’s name inside a bank locker owned by Somkuwar’s wife.
