Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s praise for MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during a programme in Rajasthan comes as a relief for the Chouhan camp amid the brickbats that the CM is facing from the Opposition over the PEB scam.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was prompt to post his comments on Chouhan on the micro blogging site Twitter in the day.
According to the Twitter post the Prime Minister said "due to the efforts of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Madhya Pradesh is not longer a BIMARU state".
He also said Chouhan brought economic reforms, focussed on irrigation and took the lead in agriculture.
According to the PMO’s Twitter account the Prime Minister went on to say that Rajasthan chose a government and a CM 'that will take Rajasthan out of the states considered BIMARU; like MP development under Shivrajji'.
On his part Chouhan was prompt enough to re-tweet these comments and post the same on his own Twitter page.
"This definitely comes as a big relief to the chief minister. After the Congress raised the MPPEB scam issue vociferously two days back and launched a renewed attack on the CM, the Chouhan camp was desperately looking for such a big support from the PM," said a senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader.
"Shivraj Singh Chouhan is one of the highly valued CMs in the country even in the eyes of the Prime Minister. That's why it's very often that PM often posts achievements of MP under Chouhan. It's a matter of pride for us. However, nothing should be read between the lines," said state BJP media in charge Dr Hitesh Bajpai.
However, All India Congress Committe spokesperson Abhay Dubey said lavish praise by Modi should be seen as a warning signal for Chouhan in the present circumstances.
