Ashish Chaturvedi, an RTI activist and one of whistleblowers in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, was allegedly attacked by a policeman on Wednesday.

In his complaint lodged with the MP Nagar police station, Chaturvedi said the policeman attacked him after they had an argument at MPPEB office, where he had gone to file a right to information application.

The argument turned ugly when the policeman allegedly caught Chaturvedi by the collar of his shirt and started abusing him. The security personnel guarding Chaturvedi could not prevent the alleged assault.

Chaturvedi also alleged that MPPEB officials misbehaved with him when he tried to enquire about his previous RTI applications.

"I could not note down the name of policeman as he did not have his name plate on his shirt. I have never met him in the past. It seems that MPPEB officials are now trying to threaten the people who are working in public interest," Chaturvedi told HT. The police, however, denied his charges.

"He was stopped at gate and the security personnel asked his address and name for maintaining the visitors list. But this angered him so much that he started abusing the security personnel. We have taken his complaint and started investigation," said MP Nagar town inspector Brajesh Bhargav.
