MP: Ramleela in Pichore area ends with real death of ‘Ravana’

bhopal Updated: Nov 24, 2016 10:35 IST

The epic drama Ramleela in Shivpuri’s Pichore area ended with the real death of ‘Ravana’. On Sunday night, the stage was set for the climax of Ramleela being staged for the past 10 days at Gajora village’s Pichore area in Shivpuri district.

People in Gajora village are used to Ramleela performances even months after Dussehra festival.

Hariram Lodhi, 54, who was playing the role of Ravana, was laughing loudly on the stage. Yashraj Tiwari, the onstage Ram, took out an arrow from his quiver and shot at Lodhi. The arrow hit the target with Lodhi falling down on the stage. Spectators started shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and praising performance of the actors.

It was time for Vibhishan to unravel the secret of his brother’s downfall – the ‘amrit’ (elixir of life) was held in the ‘navi’ (navel) of Ravan – to Ram.

But Ravan remained slumped down on the stage. After sometime, Tiwari tried to lift Lodhi but it was of no avail. Soon, the other actors and organizers realised that something was wrong. Lodhi was rushed to a government hospital in an unconscious state. Doctors declared him brought dead.

Tiwari is in shock as Lodhi was his best friend. Later, doctors informed organisers that Lodhi had died of cardiac arrest. Lodhi essayed the role of Ravan for the past seven years in the epic drama being organised by Bajrang Bali Mandal.
