On Sunday at Hindoriya village, Dole Prasad Chourasia and his family were preparing for pre-marriage function of their son Pretam Prasad, 34, who was posted in army as Lance Naik in 19 Engineer Regiment at Sujanpur, Budhinagar (Punjab). However their happiness was short-lived when in the afternoon they received a phone call from army informing their son had ended life by hanging on Sunday morning at regiment office.
The dead body was brought by family members from Punjab and it was cremated on Wednesday. Ironically Pretam’s marriage ceremony was to be held on Wednesday.
Deceased’s elder brother Mukesh said Pretam committed suicide and left suicide note in which he has mentioned that his leave for marriage was sanctioned four months back and on November 15 he had to leave for his native place but his senior officials did not permit him and were harassing him because of which he took the drastic step.
An officer with the Sujanpur police station, Harit Sharma, said that a case under section 306 of IPC had been lodged against five army personnel including one officer on basis of suicide note. An inquiry has been started, he added.
