A case was registered against a man on the charge of raping his step-daughter for about a year and forcing her to undergo abortion when she got pregnant, Kotwali police said on Friday.
A case has also been registered against her mother for helping her father in the act, police said.
The victim, 16, was found abandoned by the Railway Protection Force at Betul railway station on April 15.
The girl was taken to a child shelter home in the town, where she narrated her ordeal to the warden, who took her police station and lodged a complaint against her step-father and mother.
Police said the girl, a resident of Chhindwara town, told police her father had left her and her mother and married another woman about two years ago. They shifted to Bhopal where they were working as labourers.
The victim told police her step-father raped her about a year and her mother kept quiet whenever she asked her to oppose the act.
"She (the victim) told us that she had once got pregnant and she was taken to a private nursing home and forced to undergo abortion by mother. We have registered a case and started the investigation," said Kotwali police station town inspector Pankaj Tyagi.
Police said the girl was going to her native village along her mother and step-father. But they got down from the train at a station when she was sleeping.
"She doesn't want to live with her parents. She wants to live separately. As of now, we are taking care of her," said Alka Saini, the warden of child shelter home.
