MP to host National Canoe Sprint from Jan 12

The 26th National Canoe Sprint Championship 2015-2016 for senior men and women, organised by MP Amateur Kayaking and Canoeing Association will take place at the Upper Lake in Bhopal, in collaboration with the directorate of sports, government of MP, from January 12 to 15.

The national competition will be inaugurated by sports and youth welfare minister, Yashodhara Raje on January 9 at 11 am.

405 men and 137 women from 26 states across India will participate in the championship and the winners will represent India in the World Cup to be held in Italy.

Secretary general, Balbir Singh Kushwaha said that there would be 43 events during the championship, which include races of 200 metres, 500 metres, 1,000 metres and 5,000 metres.

The championship, which will begin at 9 am every day, is a collaborative effort of the Indian kayaking and canoeing association, MP kayaking and canoeing association and the MP sports and youth welfare ministry.
