The Madhya Pradesh police on Saturday took four people into custody for beating up three youths and setting them afire in their sports utility vehicle in a suspected case of honour killing.
The deceased have been identified as Deepak Bhore, Rajesh Katia and Nihal, resident of Dhobitola village of Seoni district, about 400 kilometres from Bhopal.
Police sources said one of the three youths, Deepak Bhore, had an affair with a girl of the same village. Her maternal uncle Chandra Bhoj reportedly came to know of the affair and allegedly forced the girl to call the youth by sending him an SMS.
However, when the three went driving their SUV on Friday, Bhoj along with some others, beat the youths up and forced them to sit in their vehicle and set them afire. Later, some passersby spotted the burnt vehicle with the charred bodies of the youths and informed the police.
The police have taken Chandra Bhoj and his associates into custody.
However, Seoni superintendent of police RP Singh said interrogation was on and no arrests had been made so far. The police were yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the killings, he said.
