A 23-year-old woman refused to marry a man right during the garland ceremony as he was dead drunk, the police said on Friday.
The wedding of the woman, who belongs to Rewa district, was fixed on Thursday with a man, Vinay Mishra, 27, from Shahdol town, about 560 km from the state capital, at a hotel in the bridegroom’s locality.
After the initial rituals were over, the husband-to-be and the woman were called to the stage for the exchange of garlands. But, as soon as she found he was heavily drunk, she refused to marry him. Arguments broke out between the two sides and the police were called in.
However, despite the police’s efforts to resolve the issue between the two, the woman refused to marry Mishra. Later, the bride side alleged that they were misinformed about Vinay Mishra's job and educational qualification too.
Bride’s father said he didn’t regret his daughter’s decision.
Both the sides were at the police station at the time of filing the report to sort out the expenses issue. The police, however, have denied having lodged any complaint.
