MP: Women and child development officer commits suicide, blames wife

An official of women and child development department committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling of his room on Sunday.

The deceased was not on good terms with his wife. In a suicide note, he blamed his wife and in-laws for harassing him to an extent that he was forced to take the extreme step. At the same time, he wrote no legal action should be initiated against them. The couple had a small baby.

According to police sources, wife of Manish Patel, 35, who had come to his native town Sagar a couple of days ago from Raisen where he was posted, had gone to Kotwali police station apparently to lodge a complaint against Manish but he followed her to the police station. The couple was counselled by the police and sent back home. However, the next morning, Manish's wife found him hanging in his room. They were sleeping in separate rooms and the police suspects that Manish hanged himself on Saturday night itself.
