After being in headlines since long for wrong reasons, the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (PEB) is now planning an image makeover exercise.
The board’s endeavour in this direction has begun with a proposal to change its logo.
The board in this regard on Friday advertised in newspapers calling artists, architects and others to design a new logo for the board.
The best logo selected to replace the existing one will bag an award of Rs 25,000. Last date for submitting design of the logo is May 11.
“The PEB is redefining its vision with its basic objective of conducting entrance and recruitment exams,” said chairman of PEB, MM Upadhyaya, when asked whether PEB was thinking in terms of image makeover.
Earlier, higher education minister, Uma Shankar Gupta too had hinted about change in name of the board, during an informal chat with mediapersons.
The PEB advertisement published on Friday said, “Professional Examination Board is in the process of upgrading various services which has serious bearing on technology and values.
The mission of the board is to provide the best selection and recruitment services, driven by technology and values, with focus on people needs, thereby creating a better tomorrow (Saturday).”
The PEB was initially set up as Pre-Medical Test Board by the state government in 1970.
Another board was constituted to conduct entrance test for engineering in 1981. A year later, in 1982 both the boards were amalgamated and named as PEB vide a government order.
During the Shivraj Singh Chouhan regime, the board was assigned with the task of holding tests for recruitment in all the state government departments except for non-gazetted posts in addition to entrance tests for admission into various professional courses.
In 2013, when the PEB scam broke out, investigations revealed that all the recruitment tests conducted by the board and entrance test to medical colleges were rigged since 2007.
Top officials of PEB including its chairman and exam controller Pankaj Trivedi, principal system analyst Nitin Mahindra and some other staff were found to have acted as facilitators for racketeers, politicians and bureaucrats in rigging the exams, thereby denting the board’s image.
