New high-tech office for women helpline starts

The new high- tech office of Women Helpline Cell ‘1090’ was inaugurated by home minister Uma Shankar Gupta at Police Headquarters on Monday.

The well- equipped cell has been established with Rs 1.11 crore by BSNL.

DGP Nadna Dube, planning, economic and statistical, new and renewable energy, principal secretary SR Mohanty, senior IPS officer Pawan Jain, Women Helpline Cell head ADG Aruna Mohan Rao with other senior officials were present on the inaugural function.

Women Helpline Cell incharge ADG Aruna Mohan Rao said, in all, 60 people including supervisors will work in the cell.

Police personnel team consists of ladies cops in large numbers.

The police personnel will work in three shifts.

Twenty police personnel will work in each shift. There are 20 phones- 12 for incoming and 8 for outgoing have been installed in the helpline.

The police personnel were being specially trained to operate the new office by the officials of BSNL, Mumbai from last 15 days.

Rao said, “In the training, they took technical training ADG Aruna Mohan Rao informed that till date 7414 complaints have been received by women’s helpdesk number 1090 started from January 1, 2013. Of these, 7366 complaints were redressed and 317 cases were registered. New cops have also been trained for dealing complainants patiently and helpfully so that complainant could discuss her problem in a better manner.”

Women Helpline Cell ‘1090’ was launched in January1, 2013. Earlier, it was being functioned from police control room.
