In a major success, the crime branch caught ‘notorious’ criminal Kamal Singh, who is believed to be one of the ‘most skilful’ thieves the police have come across in the state, from Indore on Monday.
The police have recovered stolen goods worth lakhs of rupees from him and expect to recover some more from his possession. The police are now in the hunt for his accomplice Dinesh.
Singh, a resident of Bhavani Nagar, has more than 40 cases registered against him in Banganga, Heera Nagar, MIG, Aerodrome, Rajendra Nagar, Barnagar, Chimanganj and Jeevajiganj in Ujjain and Govindpura and Piplani in Bhopal. Singh, 36, was responsible for the theft of Rs. 40 lakh from a house in Bhopal, from where he had also stolen a rifle also.
As Singh had been caught many times in the past, he always wore surgical gloves while stealing so that he did not leave his fingerprints at the scene of crime, the police said.
Along with Dinesh, a resident of Bhopal, he usually comes to the ‘targeted’ house in a car, which he had stolen from a house in Bhanwarkuan. Before entering the house, they used to do a proper survey of the house and then strike.
“He had a number of tools and could open even the most complex of locks within minutes,” an official of the crime branch said. He normally carries all the ‘required tools’ in his car and used the same vehicle to transport stolen goods.
Singh was in jail for more than three years and he was released from jail around six months back, and he got back to his old job in all ‘earnest’.
The crime branch team, who were instrumental in nabbing Singh, comprised additional superintendents of police Manoj Rai and Jitendra Singh, head constables Deepak Pawar, Razzak, Anil Silawat, Ramawatar Dixit, Ifiyar Khan, Dharmendra Sharma, Yogesh, Rajkumar and Rampal.
