Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday asked people to participate in the process of development and appealed to them to minimise wastage of water and electricity as the state faced "severe crisis" of the resources.

Addressing the main function in Bhopal organised to celebrate the 63rd Independence Day, the CM said development was not merely a government activity but the collective dream of the 5.60 crore population of Madhya Pradesh.

"There is severe crisis of both water and electricity and hence they need to be conserved," Chouhan said after hoisting the tricolour.

The function was held at the Lal Parade Ground where the Chief Minister unfurled the national flag and took the salute at a joint march past of various services.
