Abhijeet Pawar, who was wanted in connection with Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, surrendered before Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday.
Abhijeet is accused in two cases related to the MPPEB scam — police sub-inspector (SI) recruitment scam and transport constable recruitment scam. He was on the run since he was named as an accused in SI recruitment scam. The STF had declared a reward of Rs 5,000 on his arrest.
According to STF officials, Abhijeet has been arrested in transport constable recruitment scam. He was later produced before the court and sent to STF custody till November 17.
Abhijeet had first got selected as sub-inspector in MP Police and later as transport constable. However, he chose to join transport constable.
The STF officials said Abhijeet, who is the son of a suspended police inspector Ajay Pawar, had passed the written test of both recruitment exams, using unfair means.
Ajay Pawar, who was wanted in SI recruitment scam, was arrested by the STF from his friend's house in Bhopal about four months ago and he is in jail. He is also an accused in transport constable recruitment scam and suspect in many other cases related to MPPEB scam.
According to STF officials, Ajay Pawar had links with MPPEB officials and got his son selected in both SI and transport constable recruitment exam. He also got one more candidate selected as transport constable, STF officials said.
