Threat of jail won’t work on some pirates particularly when those violating copyrights are jail inmates.
In an exhaustive sweep of Rewa Central Jail in June and July, guards seized two pen drives, 11 cell phones, 12 cell phone chargers and two SIM cards.
The pen drives contained recently released Bollywood movies which were screened on LCD TVs installed in the barracks.
A total of 611 LCD TVs and set top boxes were installed in 11 central jails and some district jails in the state in 2015, while 740, 40-inch, LCD TVs are in the process of being installed in the remaining jails for the welfare of inmates.
Sources in the central jail said since the recovery of items, frisking of visitors in the jail has been intensified.
Internal probe found that the pen drives were handed over by visitors who came to meet a select group of notorious jail inmates, including high-profile kidnapper Balindar Singh and his relative-cum-key aide Santosh, sources said.
The Rewa jail administration also sealed the USB ports of all 25 LCD TVs installed in different barracks of the jail.
“Cell phones and their 12 chargers were dug up from ground and toilets of the jail, while two SIM cards were found dumped in the garbage. All the seized material have been handed over to the Rewa district police,” said a jail department official.
In 2014, pen drives containing Hindi and English movies were seized from the Indore Central Jail.
A surprise raid at the Bhind district jail on Wednesday led to the seizure of a cellphone, from a murder accused undertrial, and a SIM card, from another jail inmate.
They were hidden in the toilet.
The cellphone was being used by several inmates, jail department sources said.
