Shivam Sharma, who is accused of sexually exploiting a Bhopal-based aspiring model and event manager and giving her poisonous fruit juice, was produced in the court on expiry of his police remand on Sunday. He has been sent on judicial remand till November 21.
Sharma was arrested by Chhola Mandir police on Thursday night and was in police custody for three days.
According to police, Sharma has confessed being in a relationship with the model. Sharma told interrogators that he was being implicated by the model in a rape case as he refued to marry her. "He said he had doubts on the woman's character. Therefore, he changed his mind about marrying her," said a police official of Chhola Mandir police station. Sharma told the police that he didn't know enough about the woman earlier but later he got to know about other aspects of her life and decided to step back.
The victim's father, who was also present in the court, released a photograph of his daughter with the accused's family members claiming that the accused's family members, who denied knowing the victim, know his daughter.
Meanwhile, the victim remains admitted at JP Hospital. Her condition, however, is stable. In her complaint to the police, she had alleged that Sharma sexually exploited her on the pretext of marriage but he changed his mind later. She also claimed that she had stayed with Sharma for a week at a rented flat in Chhola Mandir area. On October 4, when she went to Sharma's flat, he tried to smother her with a pillow and gave her poisoned juice, she alleged.
