The police on Thursday arrested five persons including four girl students and a lecturer of RKDF College of Pharmacy for allegedly abetting the suicide of a girl of the second year.
The accused will be in judicial custody till August 22.
Superintendent of police (south) Anshuman Singh said a case of abetment of suicide (of Anita Sharma, 18) had been registered.
“The police are talking to classmates of the deceased to know if there was any involvement of more students or teachers,” he told HT.
Anita had committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence.
In her suicide note, she accused the four seniors of harassing her since she joined the college around a year ago, the police said.
She had also accused a college lecturer of making fun of her in front of her seniors when she complained to him about harassment.
MP home minister Umashankar Gupta visited the residence of the deceased and instructed police officials to arrest all the persons mentioned in the suicide note.
Anita’s father, Kamalesh Sharma, who works for a private firm, said: “A case of murder should be registered against all of them … The college management should also be booked for not taking action against the accused when my daughter had complained.”
The University Grants Commission has sought an explanation from the college in the matter.
