Former RSS ideologue and Save Democracy Front chairperson KN Govindacharya on Sunday alleged that politics has become a form of business venture which is leading to mega scams in the country.
He stressed that what is required at this juncture is not yet another political party but an alternative political culture which ensures transparency and accountability voluntarily.
He was speaking at the day-long convention of Save Democracy Front on ‘providing an alternative political culture’ organised by Ekta Parishad here.
In July, over 60 leaders and activists had come together under the leadership of Govindacharya to offer an alternative to “pro-West, pro-rich and corrupt policies of major political parties”.
They joined hands to form Save Democracy Front.
Govindacharya said when he looks at the condition of the political parties these days, it leaves him depressed.
“There appears a clear dissonance between their policies and intent. Politics is now just a means to grab power. The way competing brands in a market do not let a new entrant challenge their business, the existing parties, their apparent mutual rivalry notwithstanding, are not allowing honest people from entering the fray and challenging their turf. To aggravate the situation, the faction- ridden opposition is losing credibility by the day, failing to be seen by the people as a good alternative to the ruling party,” he said.
Most of the speakers who spoke at the convention highlighted the failures of the political parties in mitigating the problems of the people.
They spoke about how corruption, scams, weak economy and price rise are affecting the life of the common man.
KN Govindacharya and former union minister Arif Mohammad Khan in a joint statement said the frequent threat to national security, especially, internal security poses a big challenge to efforts to emerge as an economic power assuring quality living to people.
They alleged that unfortunately, politics had shifted from the hands of service-minded people during pre-seventies to the professional-minded these days.
“We appeal to all national spirited citizens, especially, youngsters and women to join us in our efforts to provide an alternative political culture,” they emphasised.
