A head constable who was this year awarded with the President’s Medal for exemplary service was found dead with a gunshot wound at Damoh police line while on duty on Saturday morning. The police and FSL suspect suicide.
According to information, Chatarbhuj Bunkar alias Chadar, 51, was found lying in a pool of blood with his service rifle nearby shortly after a gunshot was heard at Damoh police line. Chatarbhuj was rushed to the district hospital, where he was declared brought dead by doctors.
Damoh superintendent of police Tilak Singh told HT that it is a suicide case and that they were informed that the deceased was experiencing some family and personal problems.
Chatarbhuj was a native of Devardha village under Baldevgarh tehsil of Tikamgarh district, though he, his wife and family were living at Damoh.
He had three daughters, two of whom had government jobs.
The police are investigating the case. FSL (zonal in-charge) DSP LK Dubey said they had inspected the spot and the body, and all evidences were pointing towards it being a suicide case.
Damoh Line town inspector Sourabh Singh said the deceased had joined police in 1982 and was awarded the President’s Medal for exemplary service on Republic Day this year.
However, according to local sources, the deceased head constable had for some time been upset due to the love marriage of one of his daughters.
