A retired army man accidentally killed his 24-year-old son in an argument with their neighbour over a dead rat on Tuesday in Gwalior.

Police said the mishap occurred when 55-year-old Mordhwaj Bhadauria allegedly aimed to shoot his neighbour but instead hit his son while arguing over disposal of the rat, police said.

Mordhwaj, though, accused his neighbours of killing his son.

According to Maharajpura Police, an argument broke out when the deceased, Vivek Bhadauria, had gone outside the house to dispose of the rat, but faced objections from his neighbour, Shailendra Bhadauria, who didn’t want it near his house.

As the argument grew, with family members of both households getting involved, Mordhwaj went to the terrace and fired his rifle. Vivek was killed on the spot.

A team of police personnel was also present at the time, having come to sort out the dispute after receiving a complaint. One of the, policemen claimed to see Mordhwaj fire his rifle.

Superintendent of police, Gwalior, Harinarayanchari Mishra said an investigation was on.
