The Lokayukta police on Monday caught a revenue official red-handed for accepting Rs 8,000 as bribe to clear the papers for leasing government land for a school in Ujjain.
According to the complainant, Babu Singh Kerwal, the accused--Sanjay Shrivastava was demanding money for transferring land for a school at Maksi in Shajapur district.
He said that chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan himself had agreed to provide land for his school some time back. Kerwal said that Shrivastava, a clerk, had called him several times saying that his file could get stuck if the bribe was not paid.
On Monday, the lokayukta team from Ujjain reached Vallabh Bhawan along with the complainant and laid a trap on the accused.
They asked Kerwal to call the clerk at lunch time. As soon as Shrivastava came down and took the money from Kerwal, the lokayukta team, led by sub-inspector Basant Shrivastava, caught him.
"We have caught Shrivastava red-handed and also lodged an FIR against him. He was arrested then released on a personal bond," the SI said. Priincipal secretary of the revenue department has also been informed about the incident.
