Rice worth crores gutted at Mandideep

Dawat Basmati Rice Company’s warehouse situated at Satlapur under industrial area Mandideep caught fire at around 3am on Tuesday.

The cause of fire was said to be short circuit. Rice, packing material worth crores of rupees was gutted and the store room was reduced to ashes.

Additional tehsildar Ratnesh Shrivastava and local police officials reached the spot after receiving information.

According to sources, when the security guards came to know about the fire incident they informed the senior officials of the company and later informed fire brigade.

The security personnel tried to extinguish fire.

Later, fire brigades were called from Mandideep municipality, Obaidullahganj, Vardhman Yarns, Nahar Spinning Mills, HEG and Bhopal Municipal Corporation to control the fire.

The fire fighters used water of around 100 fire brigades to extinguish fire by 1pm.

Dawat Foods director Rajendra Vadhawan said, “Cause of fire is unknown but it is speculated that short circuit caused the fire. Company officials are investigating the matter. Actual assessment of loss will come out within two days.”
