If you think that violent crimes, especially murders, result in more loss of lives, then you are mistaken.
The Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India (ADSI) report reveals that 8,506 persons were killed in nearly 30,000 road mishaps in Madhya Pradesh in the year 2012.
In sharp contrast, the number of murders registered in the state was much less.
The figure was 2,373, which indicates that road accidents are killing far more number of persons.
Of the total number of deaths in road mishaps in the state, the gender wise classification suggests 7,270 who died were men while 1,236 were females.
To every woman, who is IT IS not just in suicides. Jabalpur also leads in accidental deaths. However, the term ‘accidental death’ here comprises a host of other causes apart from road mishaps.
The term includes deaths due to drowning, lightning, epidemic, heat stroke, incidents of railway mishap, boat capsizing, poisoning, electric shock, explosion, fire, building collapse, extreme weather conditions and snakebite among other reasons.
Jabalpur has a very high rate of accidental death (92.6). As many as killed, six men lose their lives on the roads of the state.
Tamil Nadu recorded the 115 cases of drowning were reported in the district, while 80 deaths were due to electrocution.
Pune follows with a rate of 80.6, while Indore has an accidental death rate of 68.2.
In fact, while 8,506 persons died in road mishaps in MP.
The total number of accidental deaths, including all natural and unnatural disasters and other causes (mentioned above), totals at 36,017.
Maharashtra accounted for highest number of total accidental deaths with a figure of around 62,000. highest number of deaths in accidents in the country with 16,175 deaths followed by UP ( 15,109), Andhra Pradesh (14,960), Maharashtra (13,936), Karnataka (9,448) and Rajasthan (9,528). The figure of deaths in road mishaps was 8,256 in the state in 2011. So, the rise was nearly 3% in 2012, compared to the previous year.
The ADSI report also suggests that the highest number of mishaps took place in the month of May.
