A huge crowd comprising tens of thousands of persons gathered in Bhopal hoping to see the ‘miracle’ of a woman turning into a serpent.

The gathering caused a massive traffic jam streatching over 12 kms on the Rewa-Gwalior national highway.

A woman, Jyoti Shrivas, 22, had claimed that she would take the form of a ‘naagin’ (female serpent) at a temple on Nag Panchami.

As the news travelled far and wide, the superstition fuelled the imagination of the locals.

People from dozens of towns and villages nearby, reached Pahadi Banda village which falls on the border of MP-Uttar Pradesh (UP).

In fact, the particular temple is located in the part of the village that falls in Mahoba district (UP). The unexpected crowd caught the authorities by surprise.

The swelling crowed caused traffic jam on the busy highway.

The administration in Chhatarpur (MP) as well as Mahoba district (UP) had a tough time in dealing with the crowd.

Most of the people had arrived here, expecting to see the spectacle of the woman turning into ‘naagin’ but nothing of that sort happened.

The jam was subsequently cleared by late evening and people returned to their villages. Jyoti is a married woman and has a history of psychological ailments.

For the last fortnight, she was repeatedly claiming that she would take the form of a ‘serpent’.

Strong police posse from both the states was pressed into duty to clear the roads today.

The officials said that Jyoti will be examined by the doctors and would be administered medication
