Women cell in-charge Aradhana Davis was allegedly removed as the investigating officer of the sensational Shivpuri shelter home rape case on Sunday after a photograph of the main accused being allegedly hit by one of his victims went viral on social networking sites.

Agarwal, 75, a retired professor, was arrested on Saturday from the residence of his counsel Vijay Tiwari for raping and molesting at least 12 minor girls at a shelter home in Shivpuri that was run by his daughter Shaila through an NGO. Agarwal sent to two-day police custody after being produced in a court on Sunday.

Police have also arrested Shaila, they are on the lookout for the retired professor’s son Raju Agrawal.

According to police sources, Aradhana was removed soon after the photograph of Agarwal being hit by a woman, suspected to be one of the victims, was shared over social network on Saturday. Davis allegedly also took the accused to the shelter home where the victims had been shifted after the foster home was closed down.

Shivpuri’s superintendent of police Mohd Yusuf Qureshi, however, told HT that the case had been transferred to AJK (Anusuchit Jjati Kalyan) police station in-charge deputy SP RKS Rathore “as some of the victims belonged to schedule caste and schedule tribe categories.” The police will also investigate if Agrawal was assaulted by one of the victims on Saturday evening, he said.
