A six-year-old boy was killed when a speedily driven truck ran over him on Chhola Road near Hanumanganj in Bhopal on late Thursday night, said police.
The tragic mishap occurred at around 10 pm. The boy--Saumya, 6, who studied in IInd standard, had come to watch a 'baraat' (marriage procession), when the truck came speedily, hit and ran over him.
The child had died on the spot. The child's father Sunil Kori, who lives in nearby Ibrahimganj, said that his son had come out on the street to watch the 'baraat' that was coming to his neighbour and relative, RR Panthi's house.
The heavy vehicle--dumper truck, ran over the kid and escaped.
But residents managed to stop it after a chase though the driver managed to run away. After the incident, there was anger in the locality and people came out on the streets.
Sensing public anger, the police personnel were rushed to the spot to pacify the crowd.
Police sources said that the truck driver was returning after unloading sand when it hit the child.
The truck was moving illegally, as there is ban on entry and movement of heavy vehicles in the city from 6 am till 11 pm.
"We have seized the truck and have registered a case against the truck driver. Efforts are on to catch him", said a policeman at the Hanumanganj police station.
The incident has occurred in the wake of a girl killed in mishap at Chetak bridge. Shweta Srivastava, 20, an engineering student, who lived in Jharneshwar Complex, was killed in a mishap at Chetak Bridge on Thursday morning.
