A teenaged girl, who died in Chhola a few months back, was killed by her own father. The accused, Pawan Sarathe, 36, has been arrested. Police said that Sarathe had forcibly held his daughter’s head in the drum filled with water, which resulted in her death.

The incident had occurred on August 31. The girl, a 16-year- old, was brought to hospital and the doctors were told that she had consumed poison. She was later rushed to Hamidia Hospital.

During post-mortem, there were no signs of poisoning. Then, the viscera was sent to laboratory for further tests. The test report confirmed that there was no poison. With the police getting suspicious, Sarathe was again quizzed.

When asked why he had lied, Sarathe broke down. He confessed that he had earlier made up the story and he had in fact killed his daughter because he thought she had brought bad name to the family by eloping with a youth, Manoj, who also lives in the same locality.

A case of missing person was registered earlier in August after she went missing on the 11th of the month. She was later traced and the youth was arrested because the girl was a minor. After returning home, the girl still insisted that once Manoj would be out of prison, she would marry her.

When Manoj was released on bail, she again started meeting him. Apparently, this angered her father who killed her by drowning. After almost six months of the incident, the mystery was finally unraveled. The Chhola police have now booked Sarathe.

He has been charged with murder and has been arrested. Sarathe runs a hairdressing salon in the locality. The accused has also been charged with concealing the evidence. Investigations are on in the case.
