Telemedicine facility may start at AIIMS by July- end

The telemedicine facility at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, is expected to begin by the end of July.
Associate professor and telemedicine in- charge, AIIMS, Bhopal, Dr Surya Bali said preparations to start the telemedicine facility have almost been completed and by the end of this month it would probably start working.
In the beginning, the district hospital of Sehore and the community health centre ( CHC), Ichhawar, would be connected to the telemedicine centre, he added.
For this service, a schedule for the doctors of the AIIMS, Bhopal, who will provide telemedicine facility, will be fixed.
The doctor of a specific specialty will provide his/her service on a particular day of the week.
The patients will be asked to come to the telemedicine centre of their respective district hospital according to the schedule.
Not only patients but also doctors working at health centres situated in the peripheral areas of Madhya Pradesh will get the benefit of the telemedicine facility.
In case of any doubt related to the treatment of any patient, these doctors can consult the specialists of AIIMS for further course of action.
The director of the AIIMS, Bhopal, Dr Sandeep Kumar said the telemedicine service would be introduced in five phases.
In the first phase telephonic consultation will be given to the patients, in the second phase video conferencing system will be made available, in the third phase patients’ basic tests will be done, while in the last two phases doctors and patients will communicate and doctors will prescribe medicines on the spot.
Dr Bali said later on, the state’s all district hospitals would be connected to the AIIMS, Bhopal, so that they could also receive telemedicine facility.
He said to link all the district hospitals; the health department of Madhya Pradesh was establishing a telemedicine centre in these hospitals.
These centres will have the provision of video conferencing through which patients will be able to share their health related problems with the doctors of the AIIMS, Bhopal.
The centres will also have equipment to conduct different tests of patients on the spot.
