Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s newly launched serial “Naamkaran” has already created a buzz among the audience with its compelling storyline. One of the most significant aspects of the show is its stellar star cast, which includes veteran actor Reema Lagoo and actor Viraf Pheroz Patel who were in Bhopal on Wednesday to talk about their characters. “The show’s story revolves around a small girl Avani who is longing to lead a normal life. She is in search of her identity. Her parents do not live together and she has several questions regarding the same in her mind. It is a beautiful story and, since it is from a small girl’s point of view, it is very intriguing,” Reema shared with HT City.

Reema plays Dayawanti Ben, mother of Viraf ’s character, in the show.

Speaking about her character, she said, “A woman who is modern yet rooted in the culture and tradition, with family values intact – that’s Dayawanti for you. The character is a strong, selfacclaimed woman, an affectionate mother who believes in woman power.

“She is someone who has come a long way – from rags to riches – and has grown from strength to strength, all by herself. This is why she understands the value of the success she has today and she takes pride in the fact that she is one woman army who raised her son so beautifully. Dayawanti has created a class for her family and would not accept anything that would lower that standard.”

On being asked about what kind of research did the show’s team did, Viraf said, “This was a concept which has never spoken of on television. And nobody can understand what a child has to go through under such circumstances. Therefore, the channel researched on a wide scale and then the show’s team also did its work.”

Viraf plays Ashish Mehta who is a successful director, but in personal life, he is trying to strike a balance between both his duties as a man: of a son and a father. “Ashish, being fully aware about the struggles his mother had to face while raising him, idolises and worships her for the life he has today. At the same time, he isn’t being able to be the father, Avni, his daughter, longs him to be. The strength of this mother-son relationship and trust between them is the source of conflict in Avni’s life,” said Viraf.

Overwhelmed with the response of the viewers, Reema said, “Television has always been a beautiful journey and I am glad this time it happened with Bhatt Sahab.”
